12/26: reintubated (back on life support)

Emily is reintubated. She had a sudden respiratory issue yesterday and it was the only option. So, what we understand about RSV is that it really restricts the lungs and can get worse after seeming to get better. This situation is a combo of restricted (swollen) lungs and a thick, thick mucus plug. They don't seem to think that she'll need to be intubated that long and that this can be expected with RSV when it is bad. She was just doing so incredibly well for the last two days - it is very sad. The good thing is they starting hr right back up on feeds following a chest xray and they will be coughing her as well.

The Peds anesthesiologist just talked with us b/c they are concerned about Emily's difficult airway. Every time Emily is intubated it is VERY difficult b/c she has a "short chin." This was an issue w/ Linnea as well, although she was only intubated once for her gtube and her chin wasn't that bad at that point. Anyway, the anesthesiologist talked to us about a trach tube since her airway is so difficult he could foresee Emily passing prematurely b/c of a virus like his down the road causing extremely difficult intubation and increased airway problems. Not sure what to think about that, but her chin issue does not seem to be getting any better.

That's it for now. We are going to discuss transferring care to another hospital, mainly so we can sleep in her room, but we have to figure out where b/c we can't just keep leaving Annabelle with people, even though they are family. She needs her mommy and daddy too. We're going to contact KKI in the morning to see if they can accommodate us. Otherwise it's CHOP or all the way to Wisconsin I think.

Peace <><

Hey Guys, Josh and Annie Reeder here... Friends of kevin and wendy in Nashville. We wish we could be there to hug you guys and help. Our hearts go out and so do our prayers. We praise God that Emily has such wonderful parents that love her so much and Love God as well. Through every trial and tribulation God teaches us to love him more and rely on him more. I pray right now that God will comfort and watch over Emily and her family. That he will work miracles in her life, on her body and in the hearts of everyone involved. As hard as it gets I pray that god gives you strength for another day, another round... I pray that he gives you hope and optimism. I pray that he shows himself and calms your family. I cannot, although I am trying, to know what you are going through. But praise God that he brought her into this world and Praise God all of us have gotten the chance to be born and see what God has made and have the opportunity to be with Him. We just had our first child - Simon -- He turns 2 months today. He is such a joy and gift from God. Everyday with him and my wife is a gift I try not to take for granted. We wish you a very merry christmas and new year and pray God a special blessing on you this season. We love you guys and are praying and thinking of you! Love Josh And Annie Reeder

Dear Nathan and Diana,

Cooper, Morgan and I are praying for you both, Emily and Annabelle. I pray for peace, wisdom, and that you can cherish every minute with both your girls. I hope you also get the rest you need and time with each other. I praise God for your strength and the encouragement you are to others facing this disease. We are sending hugs and love your way! We're friends of wendy and kevin in nashville. she has kept us updated. just wanted you to know that many prayers have been sent up in nashville for your family.
here's one of my favorite verses that i often cling to...
from Jeremiah 29...
11 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you," declares the LORD, "and will bring you back from captivity. [b] I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you," declares the LORD, "and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile."

Nate, Diana, and Annabelle,
We know God has you all in his hands right now-he never let go. We have been interupted in the mundane tasks of suburban life today by the Holy Spirit to remember you in prayer often. Even the girls stop their business to recognize that something is wrong when a little girl is this sick. When we look at Emily's sparkling eyes we're reminded what a glorious Saviour we have-he came for Emily! Jesus loves that girl! We're here to listen if you need to talk. We love you and are praying for you. Love, Ian, Ali, and the girls.

Dear Nathan and Diana,
Our family has known the Vedders for years and years. I met you quite a while ago. I was glad to hear about your website so I could read an update of how you are. I was talking to Wendy last week and was humbled by all that you are going through. I pray for God's strength and wisdom. It must be exhausting to love Emily (and Annabelle) so much and continually have your heart broken to see her struggle. I pray you feel our concern, prayers, and love.
much love,
Rachel for the Ropers
